Now Playing: End of the Year
Well....we've come to yet another end of the year! It went by so quickly...don't you think!?

I had a wonderful year teaching your child. I hope you and your child enjoyed 6th grade with me!

Next year, I will be taking a sabbatical to go back to school at ULM to pursue my masters degree. I'll miss seeing you at Good Hope.

Have a great summer and good luck next year!!:)

6th Grade Language Arts

Now Playing: Week of May 10 - 14
This week in Language Arts, we will be doing the following:

Monday - We will finish watching a video of "The Pied Piper." Then, we will begin watching a video of the book we read, "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." I found it under the title "The Hideaways!" Homework - none

Tuesday - We will finish watching "The Hideaways."
Homework - none

Wednesday - Today, we will go back to the textbook for one last story - "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - this is always a favorite! We will preview the story, go over the story vocabulary, and begin reading orally. Homework - none

Thursday - Today, we will finish reading the story. Homework - none

Friday - Today is our field trip to Sci Port!!! We will be gone all day...arriving back at school at 5:00. Be sure to make plans to pick up your child.
*A note with details will be coming home with signed papers Thursday. Homework - none

**Awards Day is Monday, May 17 - 8:30.
**Notes about whether or not your child is exempt from finals will go home Tuesday, May 18.
**If your child must take the final test, it will be on Thursday, May 20. It will be a test covering the story "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Now Playing: Week of May 3-7
We are now back in our reading textbook. Students will need to bring to class the following items:
reading textbook
reading workbook
language arts binder
Vocabulary Workshop (advanced classes only)

This week, we will be reading the old German legend, "The Pied Piper of Hamlin" written by Robert Browning.
Students who still have their old recorders may bring them to class, play us a tune, and earn 5 extra points!

Monday:
Today, we will preview this narrative poem and complete a vocabulary worksheet. No homework.
Advanced classes - Voc. Wksp. Unit 13 (page 150); homework - page 154

Tuesday:
Today, we will read the story in class, following along while listening to it on cd. Then, we will complete reading workbook pages 112-113 to review.
No homework.
Advanced classes - checking voc. wksp. pg. 154; homework - page 153 & top of 154

Wednesday:
Today, we will review the story and complete reading workbook pages 113-114. Homework - review the story for tomorrow's test - students will be allowed to use their textbooks during this test.
Advanced classes - checking voc. wksp. pages 153-154; homework - page 155

Thursday:
Today, we will complete a test on this week's story.
Homework - none
Advanced classes - checking voc. wksp. pg. 155; homework - page 156 and study for Unit 13 test

Friday - Today, we will work with a partner and create and conduct an interview. No homework.
Advanced classes - checking voc. wksp. 156 and completing Unit 13 test.

Now Playing: Week of April 26 - 30
This week in Language Arts, we will be finishing up the reading of our novel, "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

Monday - We will finish reading the book in class today. We will complete through page 10 in our booklets. Students will complete and turn in for a grade a Comprehension and Discussion Questions worksheet. Homework - none

Tuesday - Today, we will go over/check booklet pages completed. Then, students will complete the remaining 3 pages in our booklets. Homework - none

Wednesday - Today, students will receive 3 novel study guides (one for the three sections of this novel) to be worked on in class and finished for homework.

Thursday - Today, we will check/go over the study guides. Homework tonight is to make sure the booklet is complete and ready to turn in for a grade and to look over the study guides to prepare for the novel test which is tomorrow.
**Also...the ANGEL statues that could be done for extra credit are due tomorrow!

Friday - Today, students will turn in their booklets and study guides - both will count for grades. After a quick review, students will complete a test on the book. Homework - none

*****Next week, we will go back to reading stories out of the textbook. Students will need to bring their textbooks, workbooks, Daily Reading, and Vocabulary Workshop (advanced) to class for the remainder of the year.

We only have 21 days of school left!!!! Make EVERYDAY count!:)

Remember to return Sci Port permission slips and $15!! They are both due by May 5...the field trip is May 14!

Now Playing: Week of April 19 - 23
We will continue reading "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

We will be discussing and learning about the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and Michelangelo.

Monday - We will catch up on any of chapters 5 & 6 that we haven't done. We will define chapter 7 vocabulary. Then, we will begin reading chapter 7. No homework.

Tuesday - Today, we will go back and review Chapters 4-7 by completing/checking booklet pages 4-7. We will also complete a comprehension questions worksheet. No homework.

Wednesday - Today, we will define chapter 8 vocabulary and read chapter 8. We will complete booklet pg. 8. No homework.

Thursday - Today, we will define chapter 9 vocabulary and read chapter 9. We will complete booklet pg. 9. No homework.

Friday - Today, we will define chapter 10 vocabulary and read chapter 10 (the last chapter!). We will complete booklet pg. 10. No homework.

*Johnny's Pizza Pig-Out is Monday night at Johnny's on Warren Drive from 5:00 to 8:00!
*Report cards go home Thursday!
*Don't forget that angel statues are due April 30!

I hope you all had a great Easter break!

In reading this week, we will continue reading our novel "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

Tuesday - We will be reviewing Chapters 1-3 by completing and checking booklet pages 1-3. We will also complete a comprehension questions worksheet to turn in for a grade. No homework!

Wednesday - We will go over vocabulary for Chapter 4, read Chapter 4, and complete page 4 in our booklets. No homework!

Thursday - We will go over vocabulary for Chapter 5, read Chapter 5, and complete page 5 in our booklets. No homework!

Friday - We will go over vocabulary for Chapter 6, read Chapter 6, and complete page 6 in our booklets. No homework!

Don't forget to return your permission slip and $15 cash for our upcoming field trip to Shreveport!!

Now Playing: Week of April 5 - 9
Welcome back! I hope you had a great Spring Break! Now, we are here for a short week and then on to Easter Break!

Beginning today, we will begin reading a new novel, "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." We will be done with the novel on April 30.

We will read this book in class. Students will be given a booklet to complete while reading this novel. This booklet will be turned in for a grade.

We will complete a vocabulary worksheet for each chapter. These could be taken up for grades...so keep up with them!

We will get a weekly grade in one of the following ways:
-voc. wkst.
-quizzes
-booklet page(s)
Then, we will have one final big test on the novel.

An extra credit project has been assigned if students want to complete it - see the hand out - Students are to create a statue of an angel - due by April 30.

We will not be doing Vocabulary Workshop, Vocabulary Power, Daily Reading (DR, or textbook stories while we are reading the novel!

Monday: get new booklet

complete Ch. 1 voc. wkst.
homework - finish wkst., if necessary

Tuesday: check/go over Ch. 1 voc. wkst.

Sorry for the delay, my "blog" had a small problem...

Well, how glad are WE that IOWA testing week is now behind us!!??!!

Now, back to the regular routine!

This week in reading, we will be reading the story "The Dog of Pompeii" in our reading textbook.

Monday - preview story and new story vocabulary
- voc. practice worksheet
- homework - finish wkst., if necessary

Tuesday - check/review story vocabulary
- read through the footnotes/pictures of the
story
- read story
- complete reading workbook pages 87-90
- homework - finish wkbk. pgs., if necessary

Wednesday - check wkbk. pages
- review story
- complete open book test on story

Thursday - We will visit our computer lab to do some
research on volcanoes.

Friday - finish Thursday's test, if necessary
- read and discuss a related story, "Volcano" in
our reading textbook

Now Playing: Week of March 15 - 19
Well.....it is finally IOWA time!! I know we are READY! Bring it on!!:)

This week, in Language Arts, we won't do much! When we do have Language Arts class, we will work in our Vocabulary Power (regular) and Vocabulary Workshop (advanced). No tests! No homework!!

Students will stay in homeroom until lunch each day, then we will follow this schedule:
Monday - 5th, 2nd, 3rd
Tuesday - 5th, 3rd, 4th
Wednesday - 5th, 6th, 7th
Thursday - 5th, 2nd, 4th
Friday - 5th, 6th, 7th

Enjoy the week! Remember to encourage your child to do their best each day!
