Monday, Oct. 3-Journal Topic: “What are some things you are optimistic about?” – discuss optimistic
-Vocabulary Workshop: check page 33 1-11, assign page 33 11-20
-Spelling competition – boys against girls – spelling bee
-Skill: puns – homonyms
-Story: none for this week we will be reviewing “constructed response questions & answering”
-HOMEWORK— finish up class work

-Vocabulary Workshop: check 33 11-20, assign 32 1-10 (check if time allows)
-Skill: “constructed response questions & answering”
-review: rubrics for constructed response questions & answers, questions & students answering the questions, review topic sentence, finding the answer, giving examples, giving your opinion
-begin writing one together (work on the one from last test- “St. George and the Dragon”)
-HOMEWORK— finish up class work

Wednesday, October 5-Journal Topic: What are some things you are pessimistic about?
-Vocabulary Workshop: check & assign 32/ 11-20
-Skill: finish up class project on constructed response questions & answers---discuss/discuss/discuss
-write one together as a class and students write with you in their journals – (overhead: read the “New York” story and work on one of their constructed response questions)
-HOMEWORK— finish up class work
