Week of January 10-13
Homeroom- We will have talent show on Thursday.
The cost is $1.00.

DOL Week 16- Write and study sentences.
Test on Thursday- (First hour will take test on
Wednesday)
Verb Test on Wednesday
Unit 10 - Study notes and pretest.
Unit 10- Verbs
1. Action Verb- names an action.
2. Direct object- receives the action of the
verb.
(Answers whom or what after the action verb.)
3. Transitive verb- an action verb that has a
direct object.
4. Intransitive verb- an action verb that does not
have a direct object.
5. Indirect objects- answers the question to whom?
or for whom? the action was done.
6. The direct object is found after the action verb
and before the direct object.
7.Linking Verb- connects the subject of a sentence
with a noun or adjective in the predicate.
8. Predicate Noun- is a noun that follows a linking
verb and tell what the subject is.
9.Predicate Adjective- is an adjective that follows
a linking verb and tells what the subject is like.
10. Common Linking verbs:
be become seem appear feel
taste grow look
11.Present Tense- names an action that happens
regularly. (Singular verbs end in s-
Plural verbs do not end in s)
12.Past Tense- names an action that already happened.
(Form most past tense verbs by adding ed.)
13.Future Tense- names an action that will take place
in the future. (use the helping verb will or shall)
14.Helping Verb-a verb that helps the main verb tell
about an action or make a statement.
15.Verb Phrase- Consists of one or more helping
verbs and the main verb.
16. Common helping verbs
am are is was
were be being been
has have had do
does did might must
may can could would
should shall will

17.Progressive Tense- tells about an action that is
continuing.

18.Present progressive- am, are, or is plus ing verb.
19.Past progressive- was or were plus ing verb.
20.Perfect Tense- Means a completed action.
21.Present perfect tense- has or have with a past form
of the verb.
22.Past perfect tense- had with a past form of the
verb.
23.Irregular verbs do not form their past and past
participle forms by adding ed.
