We will begin our discussion on atoms pp E6-10 and the periodic table pp. E16-17. The students have checked their vocabulary and will be taking notes on these sections along with classroom discussion. There will be a folder check on Wednesday for a grade. The evaluation list was put on the board Monday for the students to get prepared. This grade will be the last one for the 1st six weeks grading period. Signed papers will come home Thursday. Make sure your child has been returning them every week. Remember, your child can study every night on vocabulary and notes. Thanks for your cooperation.

We will continue working on Resources. Monday we will have an in class activity on recycling. Tuesday the students will receive a study guide for tomorrow's exam. The study guide will be answered and discussed to check for accuracy. The study guide is to reinforce material not as a guide for what is on the test. The information for the test was completed Friday - notes and vocabulary (the same 13 words that were assigned last Tuesday and I gave an open folder exam on, but this time they will NOT use their folder for the test) Wednesday is test day. Thursday we will begin atoms, elements, and compounds. Remember, Thursday's are sign and return paper day!

The students were given 13 vocabulary words to define while reading material from the Harcourt textbook AND a section from their Energy, Force & Motion book.(they received their textbooks on Tuesday as well). There will be an open folder exam on Wednesday with the students using their work completed in class or completed for homework on Tuesday. Following the open folder test, they will work in small groups to complete a worksheet for discussion. We will continue working on this topic throughout the week and they will be tested sometime next week. I will let you know more specifics later. THURSDAY the students will receive their progress reports which indicates we are half way through the first 6-weeks. Please look over the reports given out by ALL teachers. The students need to have them signed and returned on Friday. Thanks to everyone who came to open house. It was a pleasure to meet you all.

This week we will be following up on our gummy worm activity - there are many concepts to learn from it. The students should have their folders set up and organized with 5 pieces of work in the brads. They are held responsible for this folder material and it will be graded towards the end of the six weeks. Everything in their folder is material that will be covered on their exams. They need to bring this folder home every night and STUDY! We are covering OBSERVATIONS, the SCIENTIFIC METHOD, VARIABLES, INFERENCES, PREDICTIONS, and HYPOTHESES. We are in the process of discussing and performing activities related to these topics. Test on this material will be sometime next week. I will let you know exactly what day on Monday.

Welcome to Good Hope Middle School. We look forward to a great year. Everyone is trying their best to get organized. Students are learning their schedules, getting to know their teachers, locker numbers, where the gym and cafeteria are, etc. It will take time, but it will all come together soon, I promise. Remember, there are many things to take care of:
Instructional fees - $30.00
Sciene fee - $5.00
School supplies
Students need to return all kinds of forms - I need one signed copy of the science letters I sent home on Wednesday. (there were two copies - one for you and the other one to return)
Thursday - we began working on our "senses" and Friday we will work with gummy worms
Stay informed of your students homework and tests through our website.
